Voting Information for Bonner County

How to Register and Vote In Idaho

To be eligible to vote in Idaho, you must:

 • Be a citizen of the United States

 • Have resided in Idaho and in the county for 30 days prior to Election day (May 21)

 • Be 18 or older by Election Day

STEP 1: CHECK your voter registration information at VoteIdaho.gov 

  • If the information is accurate, request an absentee ballot.

  • If incorrect or NOT registered go to Step 2

  • STEP 2: REGISTER or update your address
    Go to your nearest library or elections office:

  • Bring an approved photo identification

  • Bring an approved proof of residence document

  • Fill out Voter Registration form

OR 

  • Mail a copy of these documents to the Bonner County Elections 1500 Hwy 2, Ste 124 Sandpoint, ID 83864

STEP 3: VOTE

  • Vote by absentee ballot

    •  - Request at VoteIdaho.gov by May 10 - return by May 21 

  • Vote early May 5 to May 17 at the Elections Office in Sandpoint, M-F, 9-5

  • Vote in person on May 21 8:00 am to 8:00 pm

    • Find your polling location - Voteidaho.gov

Approved Photo Identification

  •  Current Idaho Driver’s License or Identification card

  •  Current U.S. Passport or Federal photo Identification card

  •  Current Tribal Identification card

  •  Current Concealed Weapons License issued by a County Sheriff in Idaho

Approved Proof of Residence:

  •  Any of the above photo IDs with correct residence address

  •  Current proof of car insurance

  •  Lease, or rental agreement

  •  A utility bill, excluding a cellular telephone bill

  •  A bank or credit card statement

  •  A paystub, paycheck, or government-issued check

  •  Enrollment papers issued for the current school year by a high school, or an accredited institution of higher education located within the state of Idaho

After April 26, register when you vote. Persons with felony violations that have been satisfied can vote.

Idaho Moms need voting to be easy. The best way to vote is by absentee ballot. You can have a ballot mailed to you for any reason, but you must request a ballot every calendar year.

HOW TO VOTE

Idaho has a new registration blackout period (no new registrations) three weeks prior to the election. You can pre register through April 26. New voters can also register during early voting or on Election day.

Vote

Absentee Ballot:

  • Request your mail in ballot online at: www.voteidaho.gov, or contact county above.

  • Request an absentee ballot once per calendar year and no later than 11 days before the election. Deadline for the May 21 election is May 10.

  • Mark your ballot and return by mail or in person to the county office ASAP. They must be received by the county no later than 8:00 pm on election day.

Early voting: May 6 - May 17. The two week period before each election You may vote early at the county elections office M-F 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.  Bonner County Elections office is located at Hwy 2 and Division in the Federal Building in Sandpoint on the first floor. Bring your ID and proof of residency if your current address does not match the address on your ID.

Election Day voting:  May 21 - Polls are open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. To find out where to vote, go to www.voteidaho.gov

To find out what will be on YOUR ballot, go to BonnerCountyID.gov approximately 45 days before each election.
